15, 1888. Gray M., son of David and Margaret Hearne, married Eliza Harris, Dec. 21, 1874. Children: Nannie V., born Mar. 18, 1877; Lillie Maude, born Mar. 27, 1878; David M., born Oct. 4, 1881; Mamie, born Apr. 2, 1885. George W., son of David and Margaret Hearne, married Martha Vantrice, of Dresden, Tenn., where they now live.

"Matthew Hearne, son of William and Rutha, born 1792; married Elizabeth Snyder. Children: Solomon, Ann, Rutha, Eben, Margaret, Martha, and Adeline. Solomon married Mary A. Taylor, and had four children: he died in the Civil War, 1862. Ann Hearne married Solomon Taylor. Rutha married Wilson Morris. Eben married, first time, Mrs. Malinda Dunn, and had two children, Thomas and Lizzie. His second marriage was to Lou Safley, and had two children, Earle Jerome and John Willoughby. Stephen, son of William and Rutha Hearne, married Priscilla Morgan. Children: Joseph, born 1830, died during the Civil War; Ebenezer C., born 1832, died during the Civil War; both had married in Georgia, and moved there, 1852; Massana, born 1834; Susannah, born 1839; Mary, born 1840: Sally, born July 21, 1844; Elmira, born 1849; William, born 1851 ; Martha. born 1853. Massana married Joseph Morgan. Susannah married Willis Dennis. Mary married Frank Dennis. Elmira married Richard Dennis, Martha married Henry Dennis. William moved to Ala.

"Edmond, son of William and Rutha Hearne, married Polly Hurley. Children: Eveline; Sophronia. born 1846; Laura J., born 1848; William T., born 1851; George W., born 1854; Edmond M., born 1858. Eveline married James Robinson. Sophronia married a Mr. Thomas. William T. married a Miss Lisk, has two children. George W. married a Miss Thomas.

"Ebenezer, Stephen, and William, sons of Thomas and Nancy (Wilson) Hearne, fought through the Revolutionary War. The Hearnes generally in this county (Montgomery) were Whigs and Unionists during the Civil War, and are now mostly Republicans, but a few are Democrats. Religiously, they were formerly Primi- tive Baptists; many of the younger ones are Methodists. Jesse Hearne, a cousin of Thomas, came with him to North Carolina about 1738, and settled in Stanley Co.; He left a large number of descendants, many of whom still live there, but I am not able to
