and both died of flux, 1863. Two children: Martha, married A. Hearn, who bought and now lives on the Joshua Bruce farm. J. A. B. Bruce, married a Miss Caldwell of Raleigh Co., W. Va., and lives in Bluefield, W. Va. Both are prominent members in the Methodist Church South and have a family, but I don't know the names of the children. Mr. Bruce is a merchant, a prosperous and most substantial citizen and strong temperance man.

Sarah, daughter of John and Catherine (Robinett) Bruce, married Wm. Johnson, a farmer and most estimable gentleman. They reared five boys and three girls, but I cannot give their names. Annie, daughter of John and Catherine (Robinett) Bruce, married John Flick, a vocal music teacher. She died 1861 or 1862, and left one son, William Edward, who went West about 1880.

William W. Bruce, born 1841, son of John and Catherine, is a blacksmith and farmer, and lives on part of the original John Bruce farm. He married Elizabeth Johnson, who died 1862. They had one son, Estill B., who married Mary Martin. He died 1902, leaving children, names not known to me. William W. Bruce served through the Civil war a Confederate soldier, in the 17th Virginia Cavalry. After the close of the war he married Martha Hale, and they reared nine children: Catherine Jane, married Frank Hale; Sarah Julana, born July 16, 1869, married Mar. 12, 1891, Perry G. Cahill, a farmer. Children: Eula Mabel, born Mar, 26, 1892; John Tyler, born Apr. 10, 1894 ; Wm. Loy, born May 6, 1898; Jess Eugene born Apr. 8, 1901 ; Mina Pearl, born Dec. 9, 1902.

Cora, daughter of W. W. and Martha Bruce, married Bud Smith. They lived in Bluefield, W. Va. Johanna married H. L. Martin. Millie married Wm. Ayers, a farmer and mill man. Arthur E. married Carrie Hall, and has one child. Charles L. and John W. This family are all Methodists and good citizens.

William Hearn, son of John and Annie Chesney Hearn, born in Wythe Co., W. Va., July 17, 1793, married Susannah Hicks, June 3, 1813. He died May 27, 1865. Was a member of the Methodist Church. Children: Sarah, born Apr. 24, 1814, married James Thompson Mar. 19, 1835; Annie, born Feb. 22, 1816, married Isaac Bland Apr. 11, 1839; Lydia, born Feb. 7, 1819, married Rice Miller Feb. 21, 1839; Lavinia, born May 25, 1821, married James Hill; Harvey C., born Sept 15, 1823, married Christina Wyrick Oct 12,
