married W. R. Cooke Sept. 27, 1882, has a daughter, Laura Catherine, born Oct. 8, 1884. Bessie W. Wasson married John Owen Dalgell Sept. 21, 1897, have a son John Wasson, born Apr. 25, 1900.

WILLIAM, son of Clement and Keziah Hearne, born in Delaware, Apr. 16, 1792, was a millwright by occupation, and also school teacher and farmer, Was finely educated, pleasant in address, scrupulously neat in his person and clothes and about his house and farm, a polished gentleman in the fullest sense of that term. He never married, but was very fond of company, and was possessed of the characteristic hospitality of the Hearne family. He was a most devout member of the Episcopal Church, an exceptionally good man in all respects, and left a name as such that is far better than fame or great riches; yet he left a good estate, and about the last act of his life was to contribute $500 toward the building of an Episcopal church at Cynthiana, Ky. He died Sept. 18, 1852, at his home in Harrison Co., Ky., from the effects of a kick by his saddle horse. He was buried at the family burying ground and in 1888 removed to cemetery, Lexington, Ky.

The following is a verbatim copy of an old school subscription of William Hearne in Bourbon Co., Ky., when he was just twenty-one years of age:

An agreement entered into this 22nd day of Nove'r 1813 by & between Will Hearne of the one part, and the subscribers of the other (witnesseth) that the sd Hearne will teach a Readin, writing & Arithmetik school & Bookkeeping if required, for the term of twelve months, for which he will have the sum of nine shillings per quarter for each scholar provided he can get twenty-five or more payable quarterly; the one half of sd sum will be taken in good merchantable wheat, Th'd linen, or sugar at their respective market prices.

A majority of the subscribers will be at liberty, at the end of either quarter to discontinue the school, if there is sufficient cause in their opinion, & the sd Hearne reserves the same privilege. He will use his best endeavors to teach the sd Branches, & keep good order among the scholars, five days in each week. ----The subscribers bind themselves to keep the House in
