friends who called, and receive congratulations. In possession of all her faculties and not looking as old as many do at sixtyfive and seventy. From the 28th of March she seemed much more feeble, and from Apr. 8 she failed more rapidly until 14th she passed peacefully home, without a struggle. There are lives that cannot be described, such a life was hers. A life of love, devotion and self-sacrifice to her family, and sincere love and allegiance to her church and to the Master’s cause. It was beautiful to note the interest she took in all the passing events as well as in the old friends and associations. She did not appear old because of that youthfulness of thought and buoyancy of spirit manifested in all about her.

Martin Newton Rood, born Jan. 2, 1856, died Jan. 23, 1894. Sept. 2, 1878, be married Mattie Jane Wallace and entered Miami Medical College Oct. of the same year, graduating Mar., 1880. He practiced at Cedarville, O., Mt. Cory and Kenton, O. in 1891 be came to Rushsylvania, where he remained till his death. He was an able physician, and practiced for fourteen years. He left a wife and seven children: John Richard, born Mar. 15, 1880; George Wallace, born Sept. 23, 1881; Hattie Belle, born Nov. 7, 1884; Jane Merle, born Apr. 21, 1887; Mary Lois, born May 20. 1889: William Loyd Garrison, born March 15, 1891, and Helen Martin, born Nov. 3, 1893. Soon after the death of her husband Mrs. Rood removed with her family to Chicago, Ill., and with the encouragement and material help of her own and her husband’s family she is raising and educating her children. As they grow up toward mature years all have sought and found good paying positions, and are actively engaged, thus helping the mother to better provide for for the younger children. After several years’ residence in the city of Chicago, the family all removed to Austin, the first suburb west of. Chicago, where they now live.

Hattie Jane Road, born July 18, 1860, died July 29, 1879, was a consecrated Christian girl. Dudley Halstead Road, born Jan. 28, 1864, educated at the public schools and the Marietta Academy, took a position in the First National Bank of Marietta, remaining seven years; then with a large coal firm six years, then went into the coal and coke business himself with a partner. Early in 1902 he took a position with the Central
