Sharpe Hearne, Sr., was twice married. The last wife's name was Amanda Rhodes.

What follows was sent to me by Miss Margaret A. Hearne, of Wilson, N. C. I think it is in the proper place, as I believe the family are descendents of Nehemiah Hearne, page 618 in Hearne History.

Names of children of Elisha and Elizabeth May Hearne: Elisha, Jr., William, Amos, Elizabeth, Sallie, Lavina, Lucinda and John.

John Hearne, born December 5, 1814, married Mary A. Edwards, February 1, 1841. He died September 26, 1861. He was a farmer and lived in Edgecombe County, N. C. A slave holder and of the Baptist faith. Children: William A., Elizabeth, Fannie, Joseph J., Mary E., Margaret Anne and Millard Fillmore.

William A. Hearne, born February 22, 1842, went into the Confederate army at the commencement of the civil war and was an officer in Company F, Fourth Regiment of N. C. troops, and served to the end of the war, and then entered the field of journalism and published the "North Carolinian" in Wilson, for several years, and removed it to Raleigh. He was an able and forcible writer and was engaged in newspaper business till his death. November 12, 1872, he married Miss Sallie Street and died April 25, 1891. He had no children.

Elizabeth Hearne, born July 21, 1844, married Wm. C. Balts, December 5, 1867. Children: Joseph W., born September, 1870 and died March, 1906; Ida, born October, 1872, died December, 1906; Frank, born February, 1875, died November, 1904; Clifford, born April, 1878, died 1904; Fannie Hearne, born June 1, 1879. This family lives in Norfolk, Va., and are Primitive Baptists.

Fannie A. Hearne, born February 16, 1847, married Garry Edmundson, February 25, 1876, and died February 13, 1902.

Joseph J. Hearne, born February 16, 1849, married Louise Norton, March 17, 1878. Children: William A., Margaret, Elizabeth, Annie, Ella, John, Lula, Josephine and May. Joseph J. Hearne is a farmer in Edgecombe County, N. C.

Mary Eliza Hearne, born January 10, 1851, married Peter J. Royal, December 29, 1874. They live in Wilson, N. C. Children:
