Little Rock Conference of the Methodist Church South at the age of eighteen, traveled in that connection three years, located to enter the Vanderbilt University, and graduated in the Theological Department, June, 1890. He took an A.B. degree from Ouachita Baptist College, at Arkadelphia, June, 1890, and having offered himself as a missionary to China and been accepted, he departed for that work, making a sacrifice of all the pleasures of home, kindred, and native land for a work which he loves dearer than life. He was appointed to pastoral work in the city of Soochow, and remained there until his return to America. Oct., 1890, he married. in Shanghi. Miss Kate Roberts. of Nashville, Tenn., who had gone there as a teacher in missionary work from the Woman's Board of Missions. She died, 1891. leaving an infant son. lie returned to America, Sept. 1893, bringing the dear little boy, Roberts Alfred, an unusually bright and fine looking boy. He entered the Drew Seminary at Madison, New Jersey, soon after his arrival home, and graduated there. May, 1894, taking the highest degree. June 26, he married Miss Magnolia Arnold, an accomplished teacher in the North Texas College at Sherman. In Nov., with his devoted and consecrated wife and litle Roberts, he bid adieu to kindred, friends, and home, for China, to again assume the work which is so near his heart. He is a ripe scholar, a polished shaft in heathen lands, carrying and teaching to them the light and liberty of the gospel.

Roberts A., son of Rev. Thomas A. Hearn, born in China, July 11, 1891, is now at Chefoo, China, at school.

Robert Orin, son of Alfred G. and Sallie (Spence) Hearne, born Mar. 27, 1867. Married Miss Sallie Walsh Dec. 10, 1889. He is intelligent and energetic, kind and obliging to all, and a graduate from Draughon's Commercial College. They have six children, Spence, born Apr. 14, 1891, Brunette, horn Mar. 7, 1894; R. D., born Sept. 2, 1895, Robert, born July 23, 1899, Thomas A., born June 18, 1902. He is a member of the Methodist Church South and abstains entirely from the use of intoxicating liquors. In politics he is a true and strong Democrat.

Mattie, daughter of Alfred G. and Sallie (Spence) Hearne, born June 25, 1870. She is well educated, having graduated from
