forties, and my father (George) and my brother (George W. C. Hearne) went to Philadelphia to see him. They described him as very tall and slender, dark-complected, black hair and eyes. That is the last account we ever had of him; he returned to his home in Ala. after completing his course in the lectures, and as we have made diligent inquiry and have no tidings, we presume that he died childless and the family of our great-uncle Joseph became extinct.

Joseph J. married Amanda W. Wailer Dec. 1, 1846; had an only child, Martha E., born Nov. 24, 1849.

Mary K., daughter of Lowder Hearne, married Henry Bacon. Children:

First child, James W., married Sophia Long Bacon; lives in Philadelphia. Children: Horace and Martine W.

Second child, John Lowder, married Amelia Beach. Children: Mary (who married Joseph Bowdwin), Jonathan H., Ellie, Addie, Joseph, Oscar, Ernest, Julian and Emma. Johnathan H., born May 17, 1854, married Mary P. Coney, May 5, 1885; she was barn Feb. 21, 1860. They live at Northeast, Cecil Co., Maryland. Children: Eva, barn May 15, 1887, and Aline Hearne, born Nov. 25, 1892. Julian is now keeper of a light-house in Delaware Bay.

Third child, Thomas, married Amelia Norris. Children:
