Samuel Hearne above had children, only one of whom we have any account; his name was Samuel, born 1758, died 1832; married Mrs. Rachel Moore; children: Nancy, married Benjamin Parsons; they lived and died in Salisbury, Maryland. Samuel, born died Feb. 9, 1872; married Mrs. Jane Dodds, nee Ewing; children: Nancy, Mary Ann, Priscilla, Eliza, Margaret (born Mar. 7, 1825), and Martha (born 1827). He was married three times; his second wife was Mrs. Taylor and the third was Mrs. Griffith.

The father, Samuel Hearne, went to Iowa in 1832, before the Black Hawk War began in the same rear. His family followed him to Iowa from Moore's Hill, Ind., 1833. He laid out the first mail route in the Territory of Iowa, from St. Francisville, Mo., to Dubuque, Iowa. When he began to carry the mail, it was carried tied up in an old-fashioned cotton handkerchief, going on horseback; and as times improved he got the necessary conveniences.

Of his children, Eliza married William Billings and had five children: Samuel, John, Theodore, Ishmael and Emma. Parents and children are all dead except Ishmael Billings, and he lives at Commercial Point, Ill.; he is married and has several children.

Priscilla, born 1820, died Mar. 1905; married Johnson Meek at Vincennes, Iowa, and moved to near Keokuk, Iowa; children: Jane Ann. Laura. Otto, Blanche, Ernest and R. B. Jane Ann married joseph S. Rayn; they have eight children and live at Vincennes, Iowa. Laura married Richard Brinkerhoff, have one child, named Laura; they live near Elk City, Kansas. Otto, married Martha A. Sullivan; they live at Lindenville, Mo., and have two children. Blanche, married James H. Carter; have one child and live in Preston, Ohio. R. B., married Alice Allen and lives near Vincennes, Iowa.

Nancy, fifth child of Samuel and Jane Hearne, married Israel Anderson; children: Isabel, Iowa, and

Sixth child of Samuel and Jane Hearne, Margaret Eleanor, barn Mar. 7, 1825; married John P. Elliott, living in Greensburg, Indiana, a farmer and saw-mill man and lumber dealer; children: James, Rebecca, Theodore, Willie, William, Lizzie, Martha, Man and Harry. James married Serelda Bostic; children: Mollie, Charlie, Johnnie, James, Clyde, Earl, Ray and Myrtle Dove. Mary married Clay Alexander, and lives at Burney, Indiana. Theodore married Ida Burger and has one child, Glenn Parsons.
