I am personally acquainted with many of our relatives in this country. not named here, and as I could not arrange them properly, omitted them altogether; and it seems, too, that such a list would be too ponderous to use. To give a little idea of the great number of the Hearne descendants here, I would say that when my grandmother Mary died, some twenty years ago, she had seventy-six grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren, and they will now number far many more, and a sister of hers has fifteen children.

Elijah Hearne, of Laurel, has been a renowned blacksmith all his life, and it is frequently said of him that he is the best on the Peninsula south of Wilmington.
