But the author of this history does not hope that his work will interest many others besides those of whom it treats. These, however, he hopes will enjoy it. And if it shall promote, among the numerous descendants of the far-away founder of the family, a better acquaintance, a sincere affection, and a worthy desire to honor an honorable name, he will have his reward.
