Jim Weaver was the son of William Henry Weaver and Nellie Anderson Daniel. He was the youngest of seven boys and four girls. His early childhood was spent in Vetsville, KY.
Jim married Effie Lenora Lowdermilk on October 29, 1909. Effie and her family had come to Claude looking for a place to settle. In 1910 Jim opened a grocery store and ran it until Jan. 1, 1918. The family then moved to their farm two miles east of Claude, Texas, and began running a dairy as well as raising crops. They supplied many towns people with milk, cream, and butter.
Life on the farm was hard, hard work with no conveniences. Wheat was the main crop grown with enough maize and cane grown to feed the cows. People of the community banded together to form a sense of community. Weaver, as Effie's neighbors affectionately called her, was always on call to help with sickness among her neighbors. People also took turn about on Friday or Saturday evening and entertained the youth of the Malden community as they were growing up.
Mention the 1930's in the Texas Panhandle and memories of the "Dust Bowl Days" abound. Many succumbed to the ravages of the times. Effie died of pneumonia on May 13, 1935.
