Notes of Doris Harris 1976 record her as "Mrs. Mary Montgomery." Wythe County
Vital Statistics confirm Mary (Walker) Montgomery, widow of John Montgomery,
daughter of Adam Walker, married John Thompson on 10 Aug 1815.BIRTH: Married in 1815.
MARRIAGE: Wythe County Vital Statistics, film 034254.
BIRTH: Elizabeth is one of the children listed in the 1820, and 1830
Wythe censuses which mention John Thompson. Since no females are listed in
the 1810 census, and since John remarried in 1815, it is most likely that
Elizabeth was born to Mary, the second wife. Placing birth between 1815/1825.SIBLINGS-FATHER: Probate Packet for John Thompson; 1780-1850;

prove that this is the correct John. The will states that Nancy is
bequeathed 41 acres where John Jr. is living. The 1850 census shows a John
Thompson living next to Preston (There are no other Prestons in the area),
and a Nancy is living with John.
BIRTH: Briant is one of the children listed in the 1810, 1820, and 1830
Wythe censuses which mention John Thompson. This places birth between 1805 and
1830.SIBLINGS-FATHER: Probate Packet for John Thompson; 1780-1850;

is or which mother Briant was born to, so I have put him in with Mary.
Certainly Mary played a large part of his upbringing.This Briant Thompson, is NOT the Bryant Thompson of Wythe mentioned in the
1850 Wythe census aged 53, pg 680. That Bryant would have been too old to
match any of the children of John Thompson in the 1810 census.
BIRTH: Andrew is one of the children listed in the 1810, 1820, and 1830
Wythe censuses which mention John Thompson. This places birth between 1805 and
1825.SIBLINGS-FATHER: Probate Packet for John Thompson; 1780-1850;

order is or which mother Andrew was born to, so based on the theory (above),
I have placed him with the first marriage.THEORY: I think that this Andrew is the Andrew Thompson, age 42, married to
Joanna (Deavor), age 41, in the 1850 Wythe County Census. I have no proof of
this other than the process of elimination. There are no other Andrews that
fit. This would place his birth as 1808.

John did not remarry until 1815. Therefore I assume she belongs to the first
spouse.

AND BLAND COUNTIES, VIRGINIA, AND DESCENDANTS; 1750-1994; self-published,

age as 57, and birthplace as Wythe, Va. This would make his birth year 1793.
However, the other censes list Francis as 26-45 in 1810, 40-50 in 1830, and
50-60 in 1840. If all these are correct Francis' birthdate is 1880-1884. This
fits better with the order of children listed in the probate records of Andrew
Thompson (Sr.). I believe the age of 57 is incorrect, and should be 67, which
would be 1883. Walkers Creek would have been in Montgomery County at the timeof his birth.MARRIAGE-DEATH: Doris Harris notes; 1750-1899; 1976 handwritten notes; ;

stands for Jane; maybe Francis J. went by Jane to avoid confusion with her
father.

Approximated from birth order of Andrew Thompson's probate, and known birth
dates of other siblings. The 1810 Census lists John Helvey and his wife as aged
26-45. If born about 1784, Mary would have been 26 in 1810. Further, they have
three children under the age of 10. From 1802 the marriage date given by
Harris, she would have been 18 at her marriage. This also leaves 8 years to
have three children. This fits well. Walker Creek would have been in Montgomery
County when Mary was born. Children's information from comparison of Andrew's
