NOTES: Opie Karnes was active in Princeton, West Virginia politics. Ida and
Opie raised Ida's neice, Myrtle Cole, as their own after her mother died
(within 6 weeks or so) giving birth to her.

MARRIAGE: Giles County Marriage Records, page 11, line 36. There is also a
record in Wythe County Marriage Records, 22 Nov 1858, listing the marriage of

PARENTS: History of Bland County suggests the father is George, but famil y record of the Joshua Bruce family provided by Paul Bastic (photocopy in my possession) indicate that William Bruce and Annie Ballard were parents. I find this very plausible since Mary named a child after Joshua.
