"Page 55----Clement Hearne always said this Samuel Hearne was the one who was first in his day to leave the final e off the name of Hearne, and my (the author,W.T.H.) recollection is that was about 1770, and that Samuel Hearne was then about forty years of age, which would place his birth about 1730."

"Page 54------died in either Delaware or Maryland, June, 1803; his will is on record at Princess Anne, Maryland, and bears date of Dec. 24, 1802, and was probated July 8, 1803, and, as the custom still obtains in the East to probate most all wills within twenty days after death, we conclude that he died June, 1803."
